Free Classified Advertising

Free classified advertising is a great resource which only costs you the time required to post your ad. If you have plenty of time on your hands you may want to do your own research and see which sites actually work the best for you, after all it is free to post.

However, not everyone has that much time to spare and since time is money we thought we might have a look at which sites actually produced the best results. The last thing you need is to waste time posting ad after ad where no one is looking. Perhaps that’s why many sites are free, because anyone who knows better would never pay to post.

We have researched many of these free classified sites by placing ads with tracking images and recording the success of the ads. Some sites also offered some other nice free features which we were more than happy to take advantage of.

All sites in our review where in fact classified advertising boards. We did notice a few sites which claim to be classified advertising, but where nothing more than a forum that lets users post. It does seem to create an illusion of many users because the ads are never refreshed. Ads from several years ago still remain and are buried under tens of thousands of other messages making it virtually impossible to ever see them again. And because ads are buried your likely to receive almost zero traffic as a result.

Craigs List

Although CraigsList is not completely free, it is about 95% free, but we have included it in our study anyway. CraigList hosts a variety of categories which are then broken down into many subcategories making it very easy to scan the website. The only charge for using CraigsList is if you are posting ads looking to hire under the jobs section of the list.

The site is very simple to use and although it looks extremely low budget it is far from it. The site hosts millions of ads that can be broken down by major cities and has many great security features which allow users to police themselves.

Although CraigList does not come with loads of extra services, it does pack quite a punch on its classified board. Selling locally there really is no competitor. We also found the site excellent in promoting Web-based services. However, if you are looking to advertise digital products or a start up business this site is probably not your best bet.

The moment we landed on Free Advertising Exchange we knew we had a winner. The website is laid out very professionally and very simple to navigate. The user friendly classified board is broken down by category and subcategories making browsing a cinch. Users may post ads for up to 60 days ensuring that all ads are fresh. Users can also include pictures or include a slide shows without incurring any extra fees.

In addition, Free Advertising Exchange also offers many other free tools that users can very easily take advantage of. First, we really enjoyed the email alert feature, which allows users to pick specific keywords and then if someone posts an ad with these keywords you will instantly be notified by email. Wow! Next, the link directory which allows members to supply a link exchange, always a nice feature, but when it’s put into a targeted directory it does wonders for your search engine ranking. Finally, the rated section allows members to post a banner within the site; users that have used your product or service can then post how effective it actually is.

Over all we were very impressed with all the free features and the amount of traffic this site delivered to our test site. Unlike most other sites in the list, Free Advertising Exchange is 100% free across the board for all features of the site. We would highly recommend Free Advertising Exchange to anyone.

Free Business Ads is a free site which has a large user base and allows anyone to post quickly and easily. Browsing is not quite as easy as some of the other sites. Free Business Ads does allow members post or browse in several categories it does not offer subcategories like many of the other free classified sites.

Our ad did generate a fair amount of traffic back to our website, which is our main concern. However, all extras including premium ads and banner ads come only for an additional fee. Something also tells me they are collecting quite a few extra fees, as the site is slammed with banners, scrolling text, and flashes everywhere you look.

Over all we found the site easy to use and the free traffic generated sales, so we have little to complain about. If you’re selling digital goods this is a site I would recommend posting on.

Most Live Deal users are extremely pleased with their experience on the site. It is a great place to sell products and they are always adding to their growing community. The classified site is exceptionally friendly organized by categories and subcategories.

Our team was extremely impressed with the free local store, as far as we have seen it is the only free local store offered by anyone on the Net. We also found the support to be far and away superior to the others on the list. The chat boards, the forums, and the rest of the support staff are going to make sure you get your answers as fast as possible.

On the down side, we didn’t like how they seemed to have modeled their site after eBay. An extremely similar layout and the same colors keep them from having their own look and feel. I would also like to point out nationally placed ads carry a fee of $5. We don’t like paying when we don’t have to, so if the local free classified placement is working for you we recommend you stick with it.

US Free Ads

US Free Ads have been around for a long time. There site does pull in some traffic but overall with 5th in terms of traffic pulled in. Although this is still good quality traffic, we are very limited to what we can do with free ads. There site is named US Free Ads, but you really need to upgrade to paid ads if you wish to see success with this site.

The site is kind of messy and I did not like how ads are laid out. I can only assume the look as not been updated since they launched the site over a decade ago. If you can get around all the text and ads you will find a nice break down of categories and subcategories.

However unattractive it may be, that doesn't mean we still cannot take advantage of the free stuff. Just be warned, if you want to place a real classified ad with all the bells and whistles expect to be asked to upgrade. If you really want to pay, well that is for you to decide.
